I’ve sailed on Lake Ontario. I’ve walked on a few of its beaches. But I never tried to swim in it, and I haven’t seen others swimming there, either. Why not?
The Environment Report delved into it yesterday. Here’s the blurb: “Beaches on the Great Lakes have been closed a lot this summer because of pollution. But instead of raising the white flag of surrender, in Canada, they’re starting to raise a blue flag. Julie Grant reports the Blue Flag Programme certifies a beach is safe.”
