Café Mouffe: Julieta Venegas

I want to imagine the Mouffe as an earthy cantina such as the scene of Andar Conmigo by Julieta Venegas. Born in the U.S., completely bilingual, she says English can’t begin to express her passion, so she sings in Spanish. Her latest album, MTV Unplugged, has been nominated for four Latin Grammy’s. According to PRI’s The World:

Julieta Venegas was born in California. But she grew up across the border, in Tijuana. And that’s where she began her musical career. Venegas has since moved to Mexico City and established herself in the top tier of Mexico’s pop musicians. But you can still hear a bit of northern Mexico in her music — especially when she plays the accordion. Listen/read more.

Encore: For some twisted reason, I dig the incongruity of the dancing nun in Eres para mi. After that one, try Lento and Me voy.

Café Mouffe opens evry Friday ’round 3 p.m.  Please drop by for a listen and a chat. Sometimes the embedded videos don’t work here due to bandwidth constraints, but you’ll always find links to video sources in the notes. Try them. If you’re curious about the Mouffe, here’s the original idea behind it’s creation.
